Edinburgh Cake Ladies is a wonderful group of ladies and a few men who like to share … you guessed it – CAKE!
But this has a twist! We are being catered for by the lovely Mark and Mary Porter aka Kitchen Porter! Mark is a trained chef but since teaching doesn’t really allow him to show off his skills, so this just started off as an experiment – but over more than 25 nights over a year, the bug has seriously bitten!
On arrival Champagne and Canapes were served. Little cheese bites and filo tarts were like little pockets of heaven!
Within ten minutes of arriving we were all introduced and Mark told us the history of the supper club. We were then shown to our seats in the lovely conservatory.
The starter arrived in a small espresso cup but wished it was more as the Jerusalm Artichoke soup was delish!
Next was a first for me with Red Mullet. It was served on a bed of spinach and creme. It was really tasty.
Now Lamb is my uttermost favourite meats and I had been looking forward to this course all week! This is Duo of Border Lamb with creamy Mash, Wild mushrooms (which are another of my favourite eats) and Garlic Jus! It just went down too quickly!
Of course, what course would the Chef be quaking in the boots with? Us Edinburgh Cake Ladies have a name, which would make any host sweat with anticipation! The Deconstructed Carrot Cake was “toteamzeballs”. The Candied carrots and the Carrot Sorbet just hit the nail on the head and finished the dessert in style.
I would defininately recommend Kitchen Porter for a warm, friendly and tastebud sensation evening!
